I’m incredibly appreciative of Professor Annie Valk’s knowledge, expertise, patience, and advice throughout this process. I couldn’t have done it without her! She was there when I needed guidance, even from the nuts and bolts of note taking to the differences between oral history and ethnography to random life questions and challenges. Another huge thank you to Professor Olga Shevchenko and Professor Barry Goldstein for their expertise, guidance, humor, compassion, feedback, and pushing me to be a better photographer and ethnographer. Professor Nick Howe and Mr. Lauren Stevens both have passion for the river that is unprecedented. I hope to feed off their passion in writing and educating about the river. Thank you to Mr. Fred Moran for teaching me about the philosophy and care behind fly fishing and for your generosity. Thank you to HooRWA for letting me tag along on the members’ rafting trip - it was wonderful to gain a new perspective of the river and it certainly informed my research. Thank you to HRR for letting me sit in on board meetings and getting a feel for making things happen. Thank you to my roommate, Ivy, for being there for all of the ups and all of the downs, reading drafts of emails, and picking which picture you like better than another a billion times. Lastly, thank you to everyone who has supported me and listened to me rant about the river and all of my new adventures! Hopefully there will be many more to come…
